Messaging
Tutor Connecxion's messaging system keeps everyone connected with secure, organized communication.
Overview
The messaging feature allows:
- Students to message their tutors
- Parents to message their children's tutors
- Tutors to message students and parents
Accessing Messages
- Click Messages in the sidebar
- View your conversation list
- Click a conversation to read and reply
Conversation List
Your conversation list shows:
| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Contact Name | Who the conversation is with |
| Last Message | Preview of the most recent message |
| Timestamp | When the last message was sent |
| Unread Indicator | Dot or badge for new messages |
Conversations are sorted by most recent activity.
Sending Messages
Starting a New Conversation
- Click the New Message button
- Select a contact from your available contacts
- Type your message
- Click Send
You can only message people you're connected to (your tutor, your students, parents of your students, etc.).
Replying to Messages
- Open the conversation
- Type your reply in the message box at the bottom
- Press Enter or click Send
Message Types
Tutor Connecxion supports:
- Text messages — Standard written communication
- Links — URLs are automatically made clickable

Notifications
Email Notifications
You receive email notifications for new messages if:
- You have email notifications enabled
- You haven't read the message within the platform
In-App Notifications
- Badge count on the Messages icon
- Notification bell updates
- Desktop notifications (if enabled in browser)
Managing Notifications
To adjust your notification preferences:
- Go to Settings
- Select Notifications
- Toggle email and push notifications
- Save your preferences
Best Practices
For Students
Good messaging habits:
- Be polite and respectful
- Ask specific questions
- Don't spam with multiple short messages
- Check for responses before sending follow-ups
For Parents
Effective communication:
- Keep messages focused on your child's education
- Ask about progress, challenges, or scheduling
- Respect the tutor's working hours
- Use messages for non-urgent matters
For Tutors
Professional communication:
- Respond within 24-48 hours
- Be clear and helpful
- Set expectations for response times
- Keep records of important discussions
Response Expectations
While there's no formal SLA, reasonable expectations are:

For truly urgent matters (can't join a session, emergency cancellation), use the contact options in your tutor's profile or the Help Center.
Privacy & Security
- Messages are private between participants
- Conversations are encrypted in transit
- Tutor Connecxion staff doesn't read messages unless legally required
- You can report inappropriate messages
