Approving Sessions
Depending on your settings, you may need to approve tutoring sessions before they're confirmed.
When Approval Is Needed
Approval Settings
Session approval can be:
| Setting | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Always Required | All sessions need your approval |
| New Tutors Only | First few sessions with a new tutor |
| Never Required | Sessions are auto-approved |
Configure this in Settings > Parental Controls.
The Approval Process
Receiving a Request
When a session needs approval:
- Your tutor or child schedules a session
- You receive an email notification
- The session appears in your "Needs Attention" section
- Status shows as "Pending Approval"
Reviewing the Session
Before approving, review:
| Detail | Check For |
|---|---|
| Date & Time | Does it work with your family schedule? |
| Duration | Is the length appropriate? |
| Tutor | Is this the expected tutor? |
| Subject/Topic | Is this what your child needs? |
| Cost | Does the rate match expectations? |
Making Your Decision
- Navigate to Dashboard or Children > Child Name
- Find the pending session
- Click View Details
- Click Approve or Decline
- Optionally add a note (especially if declining)
Approving Sessions
What Happens After Approval
- Session is confirmed
- Both tutor and student are notified
- Session appears on both calendars
- You're billed after the session completes
You can approve sessions directly from the email notification for quick action.
Declining Sessions
When to Decline
Consider declining if:
- The timing conflicts with other obligations
- You have concerns about the topic or approach
- You want to discuss alternatives first
- Budget constraints
How to Decline
- Click Decline on the session
- Add a reason (optional but helpful)
- The tutor and student are notified
- Consider messaging the tutor to reschedule
Declining doesn't end the tutoring relationship—it just declines that specific session.

Sessions pending approval too long may be auto-cancelled. Act on requests promptly.
Can I change my mind after approving?
Yes, you can cancel an approved session. Go to the session and click Cancel. Be mindful of cancellation policies.
Does declining affect the child's relationship with the tutor?
No—declining a session is about scheduling, not the overall relationship.
