This guide walks you through the complete process of joining a live tutoring session.
Before Your Session
Technical Requirements
Ensure you have:
Checklist:
- A computer with camera and microphone (tablets work too)
- Stable internet connection (5+ Mbps recommended)
- Updated web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
- Quiet, well-lit environment
Testing Your Setup
- Open your browser and go to Tutor Connecxion
- Log into your account
- Navigate to Settings > Audio/Video
- Test your microphone and camera
- Adjust your device selection if needed
Preparing for the Session
- Have any materials ready (textbook, notes, homework)
- Close unnecessary browser tabs and applications
- Find a quiet space where you won't be interrupted
- Have a drink of water ready
Finding Your Session
From the Dashboard
Your upcoming sessions appear on your dashboard:
- Look for the Upcoming Sessions section
- Find your next session with date, time, and tutor name
- When active, a Join button will appear
From the Calendar
- Navigate to Calendar from the sidebar
- Find today's date
- Look for your scheduled session
- Click the session for details, then Join when active
Joining the Session
When Can You Join?
You can join a session once your tutor starts it:

Step-by-Step
- Click Join — Look for the green Join button on your dashboard or calendar
- Allow permissions — Your browser will ask for camera and microphone access
- Preview yourself — You'll see a preview of your video
- Enter the session — Click to join and you'll connect with your tutor
If you don't see a Join button but it's session time, wait a moment. Your tutor may still be starting the session.
During the Session
Your Controls
Once in the session, you have access to:

| Whiteboard | View and interact with the shared canvas |
| Chat | Send text messages |
| Leave | Exit the session |
Using the Whiteboard
Your tutor may use the whiteboard to explain concepts:
- View mode — Watch what your tutor draws
- Collaborate mode — You can draw too when tutor allows
- Tools — Select pen, shapes, or text
- Colors — Use different colors to show your work
Asking Questions
You can ask questions by:
- Speaking — Just talk! Your tutor can hear you
- Chat — Type in the chat for quick notes or if audio is unclear
- Drawing — Point to things on the whiteboard
Troubleshooting
No Video
- Click the camera icon to ensure it's not muted
- Check browser permissions (click the lock icon in the address bar)
- Ensure other apps aren't using your camera
- Try refreshing the page
No Audio
- Check if you're muted (microphone icon should not be crossed out)
- Verify browser permissions for microphone
- Check your computer's sound settings
- Test with the audio test in Settings
Poor Quality
- Close other browser tabs and applications
- Move closer to your router or use a wired connection
- Lower video quality if option is available
- Ask others in your home to reduce bandwidth usage
Can't Join
If the Join button doesn't appear:
- Check the session time — is it now?
- Refresh the page
- Your tutor may not have started yet — wait a minute
- Contact your tutor via Messages if issues persist
After the Session
Leaving Properly
- Click Leave Session rather than closing the browser
- Your tutor will also end the session on their side
What's Next
- Check for any new tasks your tutor assigned
- Note down questions for next time
- Review what you learned while it's fresh
